Omicron, a variant of COVID-19, has imposed a monumental weight on healthcare infrastructure. Consecutive adult COVID-19 patients hospitalized during the Omicron variant surge, between January 1st and 14th, 2022, were categorized into three groups based on their clinical presentation on admission: Group 1, primary COVID-19; Group 2, extrapulmonary COVID-19 manifestations; and Group 3, incidental COVID-19. Among the 500 hospitalized patients, 514 percent were categorized as Group 1, 164 percent as Group 2, and 322 percent as Group 3. Patients in Group 1 experienced substantially more intensive care utilization (159%) compared to Group 3, exceeding the utilization in Group 2 (109%). Adjusted odds ratios indicated a statistically significant association: 795 (95% CI, 252-2508; p < 0.0001) for Group 1, and 507 (95% CI, 134-1915; p = 0.0017) for Group 2, compared to Group 3.
